Journalist Recognition Series: Kathy Times
By Cierra Smith
Kathy Times is the President of Yellow Brick Media Concepts, a public relations, marketing campaign, and crisis communications firm. Previously, she served as the President and CEO of the National Association of Black Journalists.
Transitioning from print journalism after gaining her master’s degree from Northwestern University’s Medill School of Journalism, Times preceded to work as a broadcast journalist in Miami, Gainesville, Birmingham, Mobile and Kansas City.
Most notably, Times brought the National Association of Black Journalists through a tough financial time in which many journalists lost their jobs. Times used the census she created in top communication companies to evaluate the diminutive amount of African American managers. With this census she began to fight for racial equality in the communications field.
Times has accumulated a variety of awards including Emmys and an Edward R. Murrow Award for her investigative reporting on system failures and corruption.
